Click Here! The FIFA World Cup is the most popular football competition in the world and the most followed sporting event across the globe.

According to a report by London based media company Visiongain, the competition is expected to generate revenues of US$ 6.35 billion for mobile companies alone with text based services, ring tones, logos and downloads contributing significantly.

As reported in the Tarifica Alert over the past few weeks many service providers have taking advantage of the event and have launched initiatives to attract subscribers using the FIFA World Cup 2006 football competition, kicking off on the 9th of June.

Tarifica has observed that diverse types of promotions are already being offered.

Some operators will be introducing offers during the competition with others promising subscribers discounts based on the results of the competition.

In an attempt to promote 3G usage, Orange in Switzerland is offering world cup content for CHF 0.139 per 10 kbyte for usage on the ‘Without Express’ option which attracts no monthly fees.

Content on the ‘With Express’ option will be free of charge for the first 10 kbytes with additional 10 kbyes charged at CHF 0.09. This plan attracts a monthly rental of CHF 4.65.

The ‘Power’ option however includes unlimited usage for a monthly rental of CHF 13.90 and is ideal for the ardent football fan.

Italian Internet Service Provider Fastweb is offering subscribers the chance to view the World Cup matches on the ‘Sky Calcio’ plan for a monthly rental of Euro 28.00; this will tie them in for a 12-month contract for new and existing subscribers.

Argentinean Internet Service Provider Cablevision has recently launched a 2.5 Mbit/s Internet access promotional plan for ARS 40.00 per month. The ISP is promising to slash the normal charges by 50 per cent if Argentina goes on to win the competition.

Tarifica will be offering a new free service on its website with promotional offerings made by telecom service providers including fixed, mobile and ISP’s to its subscribers that relate to FIFA World Cup content, ticket offers as well as discounts based on performances by respective teams.

Tarifica will also continue to add World Cup Tariff special stories in the Tarifica Alert. Promotions from countries not participating in the competition will also be included.

If your service provider is offering a discount related to the World Cup please email details for inclusion on the Tarifica website and the Tarifica Alert.
